These items appear on every home and on any other building: exhaust wall vents. The use of exhaust wall vents is mainly practical: they serve as valves for supply or exhaust air. However, design is becoming more and more important. This is reflected in the wide range of exhaust wall vents being offered at wholesalers and DIY stores nowadays.
Nedco has a wide range of exhaust wall vents, so almost any wish can be fulfilled. For example, Nedco has exhaust wall vents in different types and sizes. In this blog, we will focus on a special type of exhaust wall vents: the bull nose grilles.
Nedco also has a wide range of bull nose grilles. For example, Nedco has bull nose grilles with connection diameters for almost any mainstream ventilation duct. Furthermore, the Nedco bull nose grilles are available in several colours. Because the bull nose grilles come in different colours, a suitable bull nose grille will definitely be available for any possible interior. Nevertheless, are you looking for a bull nose grille that is not included in our assortment? No problem at all! You can also request us to provide tailored bull nose grilles.
Apart from the variety in colours and sizes, the bull nose grilles also differ in other specifications. For example, different materials are used and bull nose grilles come with either fine or wide mesh. Besides, Nedco is the only manufacturer of bull nose grilles with a check valve; a novelty in the field of ventilation.
Every situation requires a specific type of bull nose grilles. For instance, when should you use a bull nose grille with wide mesh, and which bull nose grille is most suitable for use with an extractor? We would love to advise you on this.
The Nedco bull nose grilles are available in two material types: plastic and stainless steel. Stainless steel bull nose outlets are both weather and impact resistant. Besides, stainless steel is also much more sustainable because its lifetime is longer and it is recyclable.
Stainless steel can be subdivided into two types: 304 stainless steel and 316 stainless steel. It is often believed that 304 stainless steel is for use inside and 316 stainless steel for use outside. However, this is not always the case. It is true that 316 stainless steel is less likely to corrode in environments with salty or acidic air. In almost any other circumstances, 304 stainless steel can be used all right.
For tailored stainless steel bull nose grilles, often 304 stainless steel is used. 316 stainless steel is more rigid, because of which there are less possibilities to create an exhaust wall vent in a particular size.
Nedco has bull nose grilles both with fine and wide mesh. Fine mesh is especially meant to keep bugs outside. Because of fine mesh, larger bugs cannot enter the ventilation duct via the ventilation grid. Bull nose grilles with fine mesh are suitable for both natural and mechanical ventilation.
Bull nose grilles with wide mesh have quite another advantage. As opposed to fine mesh, wide mesh causes much less impediment of air flow. This secures a large air flow, which is a prerequisite for many devices like extractors or mechanical ventilators. The bull nose grilles with wide mesh are also suitable for natural ventilation, mechanical ventilation, and for heat recovery units (HRU) besides.
Within our range of bull nose grilles with wide mesh, there is a choice of bull nose grilles with and without check valves. A check valve will be opened in case of excess pressure. Besides, a check valve prevents outside air to flow inside, which would cause a cross current and air pollution as a consequence. Cross current is harmful for devices that are upstream. Think of an extractor, for example. Because the check valve only opens in case of excess pressure, bull nose grilles with check valves are also energy-neutral.
If a bull nose grille is used as an exhaust wall vent that is connected to an extractor via a ventilation duct, we always advise to use a bull nose grille with wide mesh and a check valve! In situations in which no devices are connected, a check valve is not required.
The stainless steel bull nose grilles are always delivered with a so-called drip conductor. These drip conductors are always included to prevent green rain streaks on the walls. Without the drip conductor, rain will trickle down the wall via the grille, causing moist spots on the wall. These spots allow for moss and algae to grow. The drip conductor makes sure the water is drained without touching the wall.
