Nowadays, it is a well-known fact that good bathroom ventilation is of vital importance. But then again, how will you find a bathroom fan that provides you with excellent ventilation? Being an expert on ventilation, Nedco would be pleased to assist you.
A bathroom exhaust fan causes moist air to be drained, and clean, dry air to be attracted. This is important, because moist air is harmful to the bathroom if it remains there for too long. If moist air remains in the bathroom for too long, moulds and bacteria are given the opportunity to grow. This is very harmful to both your health and the longevity of your bathroom.
Nedco also has a wide range of bull nose grilles. For example, Nedco has bull nose grilles with connection diameters for almost any mainstream ventilation duct. Furthermore, the Nedco bull nose grilles are available in several colours. Because the bull nose grilles come in different colours, a suitable bull nose grille will definitely be available for any possible interior. Nevertheless, are you looking for a bull nose grille that is not included in our regular assortment? No problem at all! You can also request us to provide tailored bull nose grilles.
In order to assist you in your choice of an adequate bathroom fan, we have 5 tips to take into consideration. At the same time, we also consider bathroom ventilation in its entirety. For good ventilation does not just depend on the choice for a particular exhaust fan.
The first tip might seem obvious. Yet, we often meet people who purchase a bathroom exhaust fan with a capacity too small to provide sufficient removal of moist air from the bathroom.
In order to get a bathroom properly dry, the bathroom should be provided with dry air eight till ten times per hour. Using this, you can calculate the exhaust capacity your bathroom exhaust fan needs. For this, we use the formula:
Capacity = (l × w × h)×8
Example: A bathroom sized 2m x 3m x 2.5m needs a minimum of (2 x 3 x 2,5 x 8) 120m3 of fresh, dry air per hour. In this case, you will need a fan with a capacity of at least 120 m3/u.
Are you looking for a suitable bathroom exhaust fan? You can find the fan that suits your bathroom by means of several filters on our website. Filter by connection diameter, colour or capacity, and you’ll find the fan that fits your bathroom.
Discover our full range of (bathroom) exhaust fansThe more square metres your bathroom measures, the higher the necessary capacity of the bathroom exhaust fan. This also means that your ventilation ducts should be wide enough. If you combine a ventilation duct that is too narrow with a bathroom exhaust fan, the bathroom exhaust fan cannot exhaust sufficient moist air. As a result of this, it will take really long before the bathroom will be dry. In that situation, the risk of moulds in the bathroom will be much higher too.
We take the following as our rule of thumb: Use a ventilation duct with a diameter of 125mm or more for bathrooms of 6 m2. However, we advise to use a ventilation duct with a diameter of 150mm whenever possible. This will cause the exhaust capacity of the bathroom fan to be better exploited.
In some cases, homes were provided with ventilation ducts that are, in fact, too small for the bathroom. Because it is not always cost-effective and/or desirable to replace all ventilation ducts, we advise in such situations to buy a ventilator that fits the ventilation ducts in the house and has the highest possible capacity besides. In doing so, you optimise your bathroom ventilation.
As a specialist in ventilation ducts, Nedco offers a broad range of ventilation ducts in several sizes.
The sealing of the ventilation ducts is essential too. If moist air is being expelled through the roof, this tip does not have to be considered. However, if moist air is being expelled through the wall and if the duct is covered by means of an exhaust wall vent, this point is extremely important.
Because bathroom exhaust fans expel a certain number of cubic metres of moist air every hour, it is important this happens in the best possible way. Exhaust wall vents with (fine) mesh will cause the air throughput to be lower and, as a consequence, the exhaust capacity of an exhaust fan cannot be exploited to the best. Therefore, always make sure to install an exhaust wall vent with an opening as wide as possible. This could be a plastic cowl vent or paddle grille.
With more than 300 exhaust wall vents, Nedco has a wide range of exhaust wall vents. You will certainly find an exhaust wall vent that suits your situation and that fits your façade.
A bathroom exhaust fan removes moist air via the ventilation duct and attracts dry air from the house. To optimise this process, it is important that the supply of dry air is sufficient. For optimum effect, it is important to keep the door closed and to install a special door grille. This will create a concentrated air flow.
These door grilles allow for sufficient dry air to flow into the bathroom.
Nedco’ door grilles are available in different sizes, colours and materials. Discover our complete catalogue.
The last tip is different from the first 4 tips. Recently, the demand for more silent fans has risen, both for homes in general and for bathrooms in particular. The sound a bathroom exhaust fan produces is related to the exhaust capacity of a bathroom exhaust fan. It is often the case that stronger bathroom exhaust fans also produce more sound.
However, this is not always necessarily so. Nedco has a full range of silent fans. These bathroom exhaust fans are extra silent in comparison with other fans.
Important: You should keep the other four tips in mind while choosing a silent bathroom exhaust fan, though. If the bathroom exhaust fan does not fit your bathroom or your ventilation ducts, you will still be bothered by other (sound) problems.
